A Little About Me

Let me introduce myself: the face of The Period Pioneer.

My name is Colleen Wacht and I'm a mom of 2 neurodiverse kids aged 12 & 10. I love working with all kids & empowering them to be the best version of themselves.

One of the best ways to empower kids is giving them the knowledge, a safe space to ask questions & the tools needed to navigate life with a period.

I started this journey because I realized we still aren't educating kids about their periods in a meaningful way. We don't teach them what products are out there, how to open and use a pad, how to manage pain, what their blood color means or when to call a doctor. I want to change that.

One of my kids has been diagnosed with a Period disorder. It stopped her from going to school, seeing family & playing with friends. Even though it's hard we're getting through it with knowledge, modern Period products, open discussion and humor. It's been invaluable for my child to understand her body and periods so she can advocate for herself at the Pediatric OBGyn.

As moms, we laugh through the stories of getting our first periods - but some of us really thought we were hemorrhaging, sick or dying when we were bleeding, only to be tossed sanitary products and told to figure it out. We know we want to do better for our daughters, but we don't always know what better looks like. What does "better" look like? Maybe it looks like going to a workshop with your child!
